Note: I do apologize that I do not have the raw scans to this chapter (no images) ...Chapter 30 is the beginning of vol. 6 which hasn't released yet in Japan. I started subscription to Magaret from May and this chapter was printed before that. =Bebe©Xiu
The chapter begins with Nori in a professor's outfit (robe and mortarboard, holding a book and pointer) declaring that the test will begin. Please choose the worst thing: 1.) Kyou-chan being in love with Saeka; 2.) becoming depressed when she heard that; or 3.) that she's hurting Haruna. Nori is thinking about this while sitting in bed, with a sad, sleepy face and messy hair. Which one is the worst? She slept well, but way too much. Or rather, she skipped school today for no good reason. Nori pulls the curtain back on her window and sees that it's already evening. Looking at his house across the street, Nori wonders if Haruna is home. She hears her phone ringing, and picks it up. Seeing that she's missed a lot of email, she exclaims, “Sorry, everyone!” Scrolling through the messages, she finds that most of the mail is from Saeka. Sorry, Saeka... There's a knock on her door, and Nori's mother asks her if she's awake. Nori says that she is, and comes over to open the door, welcoming her mother home and telling her that she's all right now. Where's Yuu? Nori's mother answers that he left his school bag, and it looks like he went somewhere. Where would he have gone? Nori's mother looks only mildly troubled, and Nori yells at her, “'Where did he go!?' It's already getting dark out!” Her mother simply responds, “That's true...” and Nori, considerably more concerned, says that she's going out to search for him. Her mother cheers her on as she leaves. As Nori starts to look around the empty streets, she thinks that when she's worried about something, she sleeps. After that, she runs away. It's what she's always done. If Nori was to take a test on becoming a girlfriend, what sort of score would she receive? But right now, Nori has no choice but to run. Yuu, her feelings – she can only run and run until she finds them.
As Nori continues to run around the neighborhood, wondering where Yuu might have gone and if she should check back at the house, she poses the second question of the test. While she's running around, she accidentally bumps into Haruna. What should Nori do? 1.) Act as if nothing has happened; 2.) try to fake a smile; or 3.)... At that, Nori sees Haruna coming towards her. She comes to a halt, and their eyes meet. Completely unprepared, Nori yells out as if she's frightened. As Haruna responds, “......... Am I a ghost?” Nori realizes that he has Yuu on his back, looking sleepily over Haruna's shoulder. Haruna crouches down to let Yuu off his back, telling Nori that he met up with Yuu near the riverbank and he seems to have a bit of a fever. Nori crouches down next to him, and asks Yuu if he's all right. He says that he is, and Nori tells him that their mother was worried as she puts her hand on his forehead. With a depressed look, Haruna starts to tell them that he's going, but Nori and Yuu both call out as he starts to walk away. He turns back to find that they have the same sad-puppy expression. Nori asks Haruna to wait right there for a bit; she'll take Yuu home and then come back. Yuu protests that he's fine, but Nori takes his hand to lead him home. Yuu looks back and waves to Haruna, saying, “Bye-bye, Nii-chan.” Haruna waves back with a gentle look, which Nori takes notice of. Going back into the house, Nori tells Yuu that he and Haruna seem to be getting awfully friendly. Did Yuu tell him anything... interesting? Nori looks down at him with a menacing expression, and Yuu claps his hands over his mouth, thinking about their man-to-man agreement. Yuu tells a disbelieving Nori that he didn't say anything and he didn't hear anything. Nori scowls, noting that there's no point in lying to her if he can't keep a straight face. She leads him on into the house, and tells Yuu that it's fine - she guesses she can overlook today's excursion. As Yuu thinks, “Nii-chan! I kept our secret!” Nori yells to their mother that she found Yuu. Looking serious, Yuu tells Nori, “Nee-chan, for now, please hurry and go see Nii-chan.”
As the light fades outside, Haruna is leaning against the wall where Nori asked him to stay, opening and closing the fingers on his injured hand. He winces with pain, and looks a bit worried as he pulls his hand to his chest, thinking that it really hurts to extend his fingers. He puts his hand back at his side and looks at the ground, waiting, as Nori approaches. Nori's face softens as she sees him there. When she asked him to wait, he waited right there, just like she said. She puts her fist over her heart and closes her eyes, thinking how adorable he is. Nori remembers what Onohira asked, about whether or not she had ever told Haruna that she loved him. Looking back up, Nori thinks that she does love Haruna. When she became his girlfriend, she was very happy; when she said she wanted to make Haruna happy, that was truly how she felt. As she's thinking about this, Haruna notices her standing there, and asks what she's doing over there. It surprises her a bit and pulls her out of her thoughts. Haruna gives her a slight smile, and she closes the distance between them. But, if she does love Haruna, Nori wonders why she hated it so much when she heard about Saeka and Kyou-chan. Haruna asks how Yuu is doing, and Nori tells him that he's going to the hospital, just to be safe. She apologizes to Haruna, since he had to help with Yuu even though his hand still hasn't healed. Haruna turns and takes another step towards Nori, saying, “It's cold, so you should come a little closer.” Nori starts to apologize again, for asking him to wait outside when it was getting so cold, but Haruna just says that he didn't mind. He wraps his arms around Nori and pulls her into a hug, telling her that it's fine - she has nothing to apologize to him for. Nori doesn't return the hug, but rests her head against his shoulder for a moment, looking like she's about to cry (I guess because she does think she has something to apologize for). She brings her fists up between them and pushes Haruna away, telling him that she can't do that with him right now. Haruna's expression changes from surprise to a sort of panic, as if he expects that she's going to tell him that she doesn't want to see him anymore. However, when Nori tells him instead that she's in the middle of a test, Haruna becomes confused. She's already into the testing period at school? No, Nori tells him, it's much more important than the end of the term. She needs to know if she can become a good enough girlfriend for him. The test will make it clear if she can make herself a super girlfriend for him. Haruna looks at her skeptically - “Super girlfriend?” An image Nori has... Nori thinks that, because of that gloomy feeling [she has when she thinks about Saeka with Kyou-chan], she needs to sort out her feelings for her relationship with Haruna to work. Also thinking about the situation, Haruna asks, “Come to think of it, Nori... Why didn't you go to school today?” (Nori's thought: “Yuu!!”) Not wanting to give the real answer, Nori tries to think of what to say, and just tells Haruna that she slept the whole day, so now she's fine! Then Haruna reveals the conclusion he came to as to what upset Nori: So it wasn't because he pinned her down on the way to school the day before? Nori tells him it wasn't, but Haruna doesn't believe her. It isn't because he pinned her down, and he made her make those embarrassing noises? Nori tells him that it's already been forgotten, but is surprised to see Haruna slink back against the wall, looking genuinely upset. Nori thinks that this isn't good; Haruna seems so insecure, and none of this was his fault at all. Nori attempts to comfort him, telling him that no, really, it wasn't that... and Haruna notices that Kyou is attempting to sneak down the street past them.
As Kyou tries to hide his face behind his school bag (with branches sticking out of his clothes), Haruna tells him, “I can see you, Kyou-chan.” Hearing his name, Nori turns around anxiously, and Kyou stops trying to sneak away. Forcing a smile, Kyou waves and tells them his house is nearby, it's not like there was something on his mind. Nori turns away, thinking, “And here's the source of my problem!” Haruna points out that Kyou's house isn't close, though, he's pretty sure it's all the way in the other direction. Kyou claims that it's all the territory of his house; Haruna tells him that's incredible. Looking serious now, Kyou notes that the two of them seem to be getting along. Haruna asks him what he's talking about, and Kyou tells him to forget about it. As the two of them continue to converse, Nori wonders if this is going to be all right like this, with the three of them together. Haruna asks Kyou-chan why he was trying to sneak past them, and he turns away with a sort of embarrassed blush. He guesses when he saw two young people like that, he felt like he should leave them alone. He supposes it was something like parental affection. (Haruna: “Who's a parent?”) Watching them talk, Nori thinks that certainly, she always loved Kyou-chan. When she confessed and he turned her down, it's not as if those feelings just went away. She has a feeling she was a little wrong. Haruna and Kyou both notice that Nori is just spacing out in front of them, and Kyou tells her to join the conversation. Smiling, Kyou tells them that, to an outsider, it seemed completely, totally, absolutely pointless to try to approach them. Haruna suggests that the word he wants is “atmosphere.” Nori smiles softly, looking at Kyou-chan's lightly blushing, concerned face, thinking that it's obvious Kyou-chan came there because he was worrying about her and Haruna. Nori tells Kyou-chan that she thinks he gives off that sort of atmosphere for about two out of every six months. Kyou yells, “Nori!” and Haruna, amused, calls him an idiot. But, Haruna hasn't really known Kyou-chan to be like that. (Kyou grabs Haruna's hands in appreciation.) Kyou's smiling face reminds Nori of when they were kids, and she thinks that, certainly, Kyou-chan is her very important friend. But more than that, Nori isn't sure she'd call it “love,” but since kindergarten, the three of them together – Saeka, Kyou-chan, and herself – were Nori's world. Picturing the three of them as elementary students, she thinks that with Kyou-chan loving Saeka, that world was about to change. Maybe that was what's been making Nori feel so lonely.
Nori is pulled out of her thoughts by a phone call, and sees that it's from Saeka. Haruna hears and asks if she has a call, and Nori excuses herself to answer it. On the other end, Saeka asks Nori if she's all right now. Nori says that she is, and apologizes for sleeping through all of her calls today. So she's really OK? Yes, she just woke up, and only checked her mail a little while ago. Saeka says it's all right, since then... Nori notices noises in the background and, looking more concerned, asks Saeka if she's at the train station. The scene switches to Saeka standing in a crowd in front of a train, and she tells Nori that yes, she's on the platform now. Her train will be there soon; right now, she's on her way to Sensei's place. Nori gasps in surprise, and Saeka tells her that she left home earlier, saying that she was going to eat somewhere. (In the background on Nori's end of the phone, Haruna and Kyou seem to be discussing Haruna's elbow.) Standing on the platform facing the train, Saeka tells Nori that she'll be staying in a hotel from today through the weekend. She's turning into a bad girl; most likely, she won't come home this weekend. Nori isn't sure what to say, looking over to Kyou (who now seems to be showing Haruna something on his phone, smiling) and asking Saeka to hold on. Saeka answers, blushing, that she wants to properly become Sensei's girlfriend. She says good bye, she's leaving, and Nori doesn't respond. After Saeka hangs up, Nori remains across the street, trying to decide what to do. She really understands Saeka's feelings, but Kyou-chan... What on Earth should she do? Would Kyou get there in time if she told him immediately? Should she tell him? Maybe not, but she doesn't know if she should hold back. But she won't understand any better later; right now... Haruna and Kyou both notice how troubled Nori looks and approach her. Kyou asks her what's wrong, and she thinks, “Kyou-chan, that's the question. What should I do?”
Translator's Commentary: Nori's mother, while flighty, still might the best parent in this series. (Has Nori's father ever even been mentioned? I don't think he has.) It struck me as completely in character for Haruna to assume that if Nori was upset, it was definitely because he did something wrong. I also get the sense that Haruna is irritated that he likes Kyou, because he didn't want to make friends with the guy Nori was always in love with. It just sort of happened. Next chapter: Kyou deals with Saeka's departure the way he deals with everything – by going to the batting center.
